Why compress before sending on WhatsApp?
WhatsApp compresses videos you send as media, and it can take a long time to upload a large file on mobile data. Compressing first gives you control: you decide the size and quality, the upload finishes faster, and the person receiving it downloads less data. It's especially useful for family groups where people are on slow connections.
WhatsApp can also send large files as documents without recompression. That works, but the video then doesn't show as a normal video in the chat. A compressed MP4 gives you the best of both: it plays in the chat and it's quick to send.
